The simulation in numbers
The tool
"A mirror that shows you the life you're actually living — not the one you think you are."
What is this
The Wealth & Joy Simulation is an award-winning board-based life simulation that puts you through 40 years of financial, emotional, and relational scenarios — compressed into a single session.
Through play, you discover the real patterns driving your decisions. Around money. Around relationships. Around how you use your time and energy. Then — with a certified facilitator — you debrief, reflect, and plant new seeds for the life you actually want.
Created by Tang Qian Jiu (Joy Donald Tang), founder of the Wealth & Joy Academy. Winner of the MUSE Design Award. Rooted in the philosophy of the Tao Te Ching, integrating Eastern wisdom with Western financial thinking. Hosted by Fiona Li with permission as a certified facilitator.
The simulation takes you from age 20 to 60 — through the career pivots, the financial decisions, the relationships that shape you, the opportunities you seized and the ones you let slip. You play as yourself. The insights are yours to keep.
The philosophy
Rooted in the ancient principle of cause and effect from the Tao Te Ching: the seeds you plant in your inner world become the harvest of your outer world. The simulation makes this visible — often startlingly so.
Most people leave their first session saying the same thing: "I didn't realise I was doing that." That realisation — that moment of genuine self-seeing — is where real change begins.
The five wealth elements
The simulation reveals how you're currently managing each one — and where the leaks are.
How you use the hours of your life. The most honest mirror of your actual priorities — not your stated ones.
Physical, mental, and emotional fuel. A full schedule with depleted energy produces nothing meaningful.
Skills, knowledge, and creative capacity. Most people underestimate what they already have.
Your conscious relationship with financial resources — not just the amount, but the story behind it.
The quality and intentionality of your connections. Network is active ingredient — not passive context.
Five dream areas
What happens in a session
You step into the board-based game as yourself. You make decisions — about money, time, relationships, risk — as they arise across 40 simulated years. The game creates real emotional responses. Those responses are real data.
The most important part. Fiona guides a structured debrief that helps you understand what your behaviour in the game reveals about your real-life patterns — around wealth, generosity, fear, and choice. This is where the insight becomes yours.
You leave with one intentional commitment — a seed planted with awareness. Not a to-do list. A single, powerful intention rooted in what the simulation revealed. Participants consistently find that this one thing changes more than they expected.
Sessions are kept to 2–6 participants deliberately. The intimacy creates safety. The safety creates honesty. The honesty creates the kind of breakthrough that rarely happens when people are performing for a crowd. You will leave knowing the people in the room.
Who this is for
You're successful on paper — but something still feels off or incomplete
You've tried other personal development approaches and want something that actually lands
You're navigating a transition — career, relationship, identity — and want clarity on what comes next
You want to understand your real relationship with money — not just strategies, but the story underneath
You're ready to show up honestly in a small group and do genuine inner work
You believe that your life is your greatest work — and you're not done yet
"I've sat on the other side of this simulation. More than once. I know what it feels like when the game shows you something you weren't ready to see — and I know what it takes to turn that moment into a direction."
Over 40 simulations across Singapore's English and Chinese-speaking communities. Hundreds of participants. Each session personally facilitated — never delegated.
The debrief is everything. The game creates the experience — but the facilitator creates the safety in which real insight can emerge. That is what I take most seriously.
In June 2026, I'm heading to Peking University for a deep immersion in cognitive science and psychology. The July simulation will bring that directly into the room with you.
